Mexicos största ö skulle vi ju inte missa. Men att den skulle vara så stor att det fanns höghus på den visste vi inte. Dykningen ska vara väldigt bra här sägs det, världens näst längsta berriärrev (efter Stora barriärrevet i Australien). Men det har blivit så mycket aktiviteter på sista tiden så vi kände att det fick räcka med att snorkla. Min stora dröm har ännu inte gått i uppfyllelse - att dyka med valhajar, eftersom det inte är säsong, så jag får komma tillbaka en annan gång. Dessutom vill jag åka till Belize och dyka i The Blue Hole också, och vi missade ju faktiskt Belize och Honduras under den här resan. Next time!
Man kunde i och för sig dyka med bullsharks, men att dykinstruktörerna skulle ha med sig mat och mata världens tredje farligaste haj där nere på djupet kändes faktiskt lite väl läskigt. Som sagt, det fick bli snorkling istället! Vi åkte med på en tur som skulle ta oss till tre olika rev. Sa de. Det var en sandbotten med krukor, en botten med stenbumlingar och ett djup med dykare långt under. Lurade igen. Damn it. Aja, vattnet var i alla fall sjukt klart och knallblått, man kunde se säkert 40 meter. Vi hade kul bland dykarnas bubblor. Däremot hade vi inte såpass kul åt de där bubblorna att vi tyckte att guiden var värd någon dricks då han inte hade tagit oss dit till de ställen han hade lovat. Men det tyckte han. Vi hade betalat 20 dollar för turen, och han menade att han skulle ha 5-10 dollar i dricks om man var missnöjd och 20-50 dollar om man var nöjd. Sen stoppade han upp en flaska i ansiktet på alla i båten och sa åt alla att dricksa. Tre personer skrapade fram några mynt, och han gapade om mer. "More, you have more, give me more!" Han skulle ha dricks av oss också, men vi vägrade och sa att han kunde ge oss den andra ölen som var inkluderad men den fick vi inte om vi inte dricksade. När vi gick av båten fick vi höra "thank you for the tips girls". Alltså!!!! Då har det ju bara gått för långt, kan man inte ens utföra den servicen man lovat och inte heller vara trevlig under tiden, och dessutom tigga efter dricks, då kan man inte räkna med att få dricks. Skämmer turisterna bort folk och bara slänger pengar runt sig? Då är det inte konstigt att de försöker lura oss hela tiden för de tror att alla går runt och har överflöd med pengar.
Vi hyrde moppe och körde runt hela ön, det var nice att för en gångs skulle själv kunna bestämma var och när vi skulle stanna. Man kunde simma med tama delfiner också, men vi valde att inte supporta den hemska branchen. Varje turist får simma med tre delfiner, klappa dem, pussa dem och bli dragna i vattnet av dem. Hur många turister får de här tre delfinerna träffa om dagen egentligen? Det måste vara sjukt stressande. Jag vet inte så mycket om det där faktiskt, syrran är mer insatt, men det är bättre att simma med dem ute i det vilda.
// Mexico's largest island, not to be missed. The diving is supposed to be very nice here,it's the world's second longest barrier reef (after the Great Barrier Reef in Australia). But we have done so many activities lately, so we were happy just to snorkel. My big dream has not yet come true - to dive with whale sharks, because it is not the season for it now. Also, I want to go to Belize and dive in the Blue Hole as well, and we missed Belize and Honduras during this trip so I have to come back!
You could also dive with bullsharks, but the instructors would bring food and feed the world's third most dangerous shark. This felt a little bit too scary. We went on a snorkelingtour that would take us to three different reefs. That's what they told us. It was one sandy bottom with pots on it, one bottom with boulders and one spot with divers far below. Fooled again. Damn it. Whatever, the water was anyway very clear and bright blue, you could see probably 40 meters away. We had fun among the divers' bubbles. However, not that much fun that we thought the guide was worth a tip when he had not taken us to the places he had promised. But he thought so. We had paid $ 20 for the tour, and he said that we would have to tip 5-10 dollars if we were dissatisfied and 20-50 dollars if we were satisfied. Then he put a bottle up in our faces and told everyone to tip. Three people collected a few coins, and he gaped for more. "More, you have more, give me more!" He asked us too, but we refused and said he could give us the second beer which was included but we could not get that if we didn't tip. As we walked off the boat he said "Thank you for the tip girls". Ahhhh!!!! It's just gone too far, if you can not even perform the services that you promis nor be nice in the meantime, then beg for tips, then you can not expect to get tip. Does tourists just throw money around to the locals? Then it is no wonder that they are trying to fool us all the time because they think everyone walks around and has plenty of money.
We rented a moped and drove around the island, we could for once be able to decide when and where we would stop, so nice. You could swim with dolphins too, but we chose not to support that awful business. Every tourist swim with three dolphins, pet them, kiss them and gets drawn into the water by them. How many tourists does these three dolphins get to meet everyday? It must be very stressful for them. I do not know much about this though, my sister is more into this, but I know it's better to swim with them in the wild.
